EDP Runner's World Awards, the great running party
Mariano Haro, Adel Mechaal, Ana Lozano and Saúl Ordóñez, among the winners
The second edition ofEDP ios Runner’s World, sponsored by EDP, brought together the most outstanding figures in the history of Spanish athletics along with emerging talents, as well as race organizers or coaches, among others.
The Goyeneche Hall of the Spanish Olympic Committee hosted the award ceremony, in which Adel Mechaal received the award for the best runner of the year from the managing director of EDP, Javier Sáenz de Jubera. Ana Lozano obtained the same recognition in the female category.
EDP iso collaborated with the most participative side of the Awards, drawing racing bibs for its sponsored races for the voters of the category "Best history of improvement", which fell to José Manuel Roás and his son Pablo, who suffers from cerebral palsy. Together they enjoy running marathons and their life lessons have made them worthy of this award. The readers' favorite sneaker was Asics Gel-Nimbus.
Among the races for which the organization draws racing bibs is the EDP 'n'Roll Madrid Marathon & 1/2 (April 22), which won the award for the best race of the year. In its 40th edition, in 2017, it sported the gold label of the International Federation of Athletics Associations.
One of the most moving moments of the ceremony was Mariano Haro, who received the Special Prize of the Jury from Martín Fiz. Haro was awarded for his status as a pioneer of Spanish sport.
Saúl Ordóñez, for his part, won the prize for the sporting achievement of 2018 for his 800 meters bronze medal in the last indoor track World Championship held in Birmingham.
There was also time to show "Comparte tu energía", the first platform that links blind runners with people who will guide them in training and races. This initiative is promoted by EDP has the support of ONCE and FEDC. Runner Icon, the petition for Internet search engines to include the "running" option on their maps, also received the support of those present, who could join the initiative, and already counts with more than 5,800 signatures on its website, runnericon.com.
