Thursday 07, December 2017

On Friday 8 and Saturday 9 December, the exhibition of the centenary reviewing the history of the hydraulic power plant that gave rise to EDP ll be shown to the public for the first time.

The La Malva hydroelectric plant is open to the public for the first time, organized by the Somiedo City Council in collaboration with EDP weekend. Those interested in knowing the facilities and the history of this power station, which just turned one hundred years old and is the origin of the energy company, will be able to do so on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 in the morning, between 10:00 a.m. 2:00 pm, or in the afternoon, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

This is one of the novelties of the celebration of the centenary of the electrical installation, whose central act took place on September 22 with the visit of His Majesty the King Felipe VI. The monarch toured the facilities of La Malva, which is located in the heart of the Somiedo Natural Park and which became operational in 1917.

Visitors can now see the old workshop where different machines and tools of the time are exposed, including a simulator of a control room that allows to know how the generators of La Malva are started and stopped. Also, they will learn how this hydraulic powerplant generates energy, as well as other curiosities about its construction and maintenance. The original control desk is also preserved and exhibited for the occasion.
