The Food Bank of Asturias launches efficient lighting in Argame

The project allows to reduce the lighting consumption by 80%

The Food Bank Foundation of Asturias has presented the new lighting system of its facilities in Argame, Morcín. It is a project with LED technology financed by Fundación EDP, which reduces the consumption of lighting by 80%.

The project was presented by the president of the Food Bank Foundation of Asturias, Bernardo Sopeña; the coordinator of the Food Bank Foundation of Asturias, María Velasco; and by the executive director of Fundación EDP, Vanda Martins. Accompanied by Bank volunteers and EDP oyees who have participated in the project, they toured the new facilities of the Food Bank in Argame, a 2,400 square meter facility with capacity to store 500,000 kilograms of food. In this space, the Bank has more than 50 volunteers.

Sopeña has been "very grateful to the EDP andation, as it has not only financed the new lamps, but also the renewal of the electrical installation, which together allows us to reduce the electricity consumption in a very significant way in our facilities".

For her part, Martins pointed out that "this project responds to the objective of Energía Solidaria, an initiative that seeks to improve the energy efficiency of NGO centers and the housing of vulnerable families, while reinforcing our commitment to the Bank of Food, with which we maintain a historical relationship. "

Fundación EDP nced both the lighting project and its execution, as well as the renovation of the electrical installation, for an amount of 17,000 euros. It installed more than 100 lamps with LED technology and all the electrical infrastructure of the premises, which includes, among other elements,the general wireframe and 30 emergency equipments.

LED lamps installed allow a saving in energy consumption of 80%, as well as other savings associated with the lower cost of renovation, since they have an estimated half-life of 30,000 hours, 25 times more than traditional incandescent bulbs.

The Food Bank Foundation of Asturias and EDP had a close relationship for years, with food collection initiatives that allow families and vulnerable groups to be cared for. This January, employees of the company delivered more than 300 infant food itemsto the Food Bank.

The lighting project presented is part of the Energia Solidaria initiative, which aims to implement energy improvement actions in NGO centers and in the housing of families in vulnerable situations. In addition to collaborating with the Food Bank in this project, Fundación EDP is together with Cáritas and Cruz Roja, which carry out the selection of centers and homes to improve the safety of electrical installations and train on efficient energy habits.

Since its launch in 2015, Fundación EDPallocated more than 437,000 euros to 'Energía Solidaria', which made it possible to improve the quality of life of more than 22,000 people.
