Around 120 people met in the open day of EDP’s thermal power plant of the combined cycle in Castejón, aimed for the workers’ friends and family, that was held on Saturday, May 28, in said city. It is the second event of this kind that is celebrated in Castejón at the request of employees.

The attendants could see for themselves all the technology needed to achieve something as quotidian as turning on a switch or a washing machine of hour households. During the visit it was explained that EDP’s thermal power plant of the combined cycle in Castejón usually functions to cover peaks of energy demand, between 12 h and 14 h, and in the evening from 21 h to 22 h. These types of plants usually work as backup facilities to cover the energy voids left by other energies like renewable sources, water or nuclear energy.

Workers, joined by the director of the plant, Juan Miguel Herranz, served as guides and explained their family and friends how energy is produced. Visitors went over the control room in a familiar and relaxed environment, where they operate in the two groups available; the turbine factory, where the most important equipment of the plant is found; the water plants, where the water needed for the process is obtained; and the cooling towers, that enable to cool equipment.

Moreover, kids had fun in a big inflatable, and with animation and a photocall. To end the day, attendants were offered an appetizer.
