The City Council and EDP unch two charging points for electric vehicles in Posada and Lugo de Llanera

The European Week of Mobility in Llanera, "LLANERA SE MOVE 2018", started with the commissioning of two charging points for electric vehicles. The City Council and EDP inaugurated the new facilities with a recharge demonstration at the point located on Calle Prudencio González.

The second point is located on Calle Severo Ochoa, in Lugo de Llanera. Both are the result of an agreement between the City Council and EDP to promote sustainable mobility and the use of electric vehicles.

These two points are added to the four already in operation in the council, also installed by EDP. They are in Peña Santa - two points - and Peña Mea, within the Polígono de Silvota, and in Parque Tecnológico. The six points have a marked parking space.

The mayor of Llanera, Gerardo Sanz, and the Head of Sustainable Mobility of EDP Spain, Javier Izquierdo, attended the innauguration of the new infrastructure.

As the mayor of Llanera explained, "we are probably the municipality with the highest recharge point ratio per inhabitant in Asturias. At the moment there are six installed, but a license for a seventh has already been granted, which shows not only the commitment of the City Council with the promotion of more sustainable transport, but the existence of a growing public awareness towards the use of electric vehicles". In this regard, he insisted that "as an administration closer to the citizen, we have the obligation to raise awareness among citizens about the negative effects of the abusive use of vehicles with internal combustion engines in urban environments, and the benefits of opting for a more sustainable alternative means of transport".

The installation of these recharging points is also a novelty from the administrative point of view, through a municipal ordinance. In this way, not only is a door opened for the management of public spaces, but the installation of these points has been made possible at no cost to the municipal coffers. "Llanera is a municipality fully convinced of the benefits that the electric vehicle will bring to its urban system. Therefore, and as a complementary measure of bonuses already in force, we elaborated a new ordinance that regulates the enabling of parking spaces equipped with charging stations dedicated exclusively to the recharging of electric motor vehicles ".

Finally, Sanz wanted to thank EDP for the "collaboration and willingness" to put in place these recharging points that "undoubtedly place Llanera in a preferential place on the map of electric mobility".

For his part, Javier Izquierdo pointed out that "Llanera, due to its location in the center of Asturias and housing important business parks, should have a prominent role in electric mobility. These facilities make the council a reference for sustainable mobility and will cover the recharging needs of electric vehicle users, not only the council, but the entire region. "

To perform the recharges, users have two options: to use the EDP sustainable mobility card, which can be requested through the website www.edpmoveon.com, or a mobile device, through the same website or from the mobile app 'EDP moveon' - currently for Android devices.

Through the web or the mobile app you can also know the location of the points, the distance to them and their availability, among other features.

Currently, EDP has already installed 52 recharging points in Asturias, both on highways and in urban environments. For this, it reached different agreements with Asturian municipalities and other entities, such as service stations.

Sustainable mobility is one of EDP's priorities. This is one of the areas that will most impact the energy sector and will be essential for the decarbonisation of transport, representing a growing percentage of car sales in the world.

On the other hand, Llanera will become for the second consecutive year a municipality committed to electric mobility.LLANERA SE MUEVEkicks off today with the official opening of the recharging points but different activities will be held throughout the week.
