The 6th edition of EDP fiOSOmiedo will be celebrated on the 28th of July. The ultra distance will be the first race of the Ultras Spain Cup of the Spanish Mountain Sports and Climbing Federation.

Last February the pre-registration period opened and more than 1,600 applications were received between its two modalities: Ultra Trail EDP fiOSOmiedo, UTDS, of 82 km and 9,450 meters of accumulated altitude, and Marathon EDP fiOSOmiedo, MDS, with 43 kilometers and 5,000 meters of accumulated altitude.

News in the EDP thon DesafiOSOmiedo

The little sister of EDP fiOSOmiedo, the Marathon EDP fiOSOmiedo (MDS) with 43 kilometers and 5,000 meters of accumulated altitude presents new features in its journey: the first part will coincide with the ultra, until Valle del Lago, and will use a new path that runs through the village of Urria. This way the participants of the marathon may also ascend to the roof of the Council, the Cornón. This novelty is made with the intention of changing each year the route so that those who do not make long distances can know the full route of the ultra in two editions and enjoy the different landscapes of the environment that the natural wonder of Somiedo offers.

The Spanish champions of Trail in the Marathon

Leon Villa Pablo, from the Wild Trail Project team, who in February was proclaimed Spain Trail Champion and in May Team Trail World Champion, will be at the marathon distance start. Next to him will also be his teammate Santi Mezquita, David López Castan, Ivan Camps and Pedro Bianco. Next to them the French Hoka team rider, Nicolas Martin, who was runner-up in the World of Trail in 2016, stands out. Added is also the Moroccan runner Zaid Ait Malek for whom this will be his first EDP thon DesafiOSOmiedo.

In the female category there will be an important racer to fight for the victory, the Spanish Trail Champion of HG AML TEAM, Mónica Vives, the second and third in the 2017 edition, Aroa Sio, and Sonia Amat respectively, the Spanish Champion of trail running in Borriol on June 10, Sandra Sevillano. Also fighting for the first places will be the champion of the Spanish Cup of Mountain Racing in line 2017, Eva Bernat, the Burgos runner Leticia Pérez and the Hoka Spain athlete, Laura Serres.
