EDP and its employees donate 23,000 euros to the Food Bank
EDP, in addition to an initial amount, matches the amount donated by each employee to contribute together to this cause.
EDP Spain has launched this Christmas a solidarity campaign with its employees to support the Asturias Food Bank. All of the company's employees were able to participate in this joint solidarity campaign between collaborators and the company.
In a year marked by the pandemic and in which the traditional Christmas meals have been replaced by virtual meetings, the company has decided to allocate the total amount of all Christmas meals to this solidarity cause, thus allowing those people with more difficulties to also enjoy these dates. For this reason, EDP has initially donated 10,000 euros to the Food Bank.
In addition, the company has invited its employees to collaborate in this initiative and make this donation even larger, pledging to double the amount donated to the Food Bank for each collaborator. The amount donated by employees amounted to 6,500 euros and, therefore, the company will contribute, in addition to the initial 10,000 euros, another 6,500 euros to match the amount donated by its employees. In total, the amount donated to the Food Bank to help the most vulnerable families and groups has reached 23,000 euros.
From EDP, its Director of Labour Relations, Carmen Echevarría Cuadrado, highlights "the involvement of all employees in lending a hand to those who have been most affected by the pandemic. At EDP we promote values of solidarity and these initiatives now make even more sense given the moment we are living through".
For his part, the president of the Asturias Food Bank, Bernardo Sopeña, points out that "we especially value this type of solidarity initiative in which, in addition to the company, its employees participate with a very generous donation. It is a magnificent example of collective solidarity and we thank them for their trust in our organisation".
Thanks to initiatives like this, in 2021 the Food Bank will be able to continue to address the food emergencies detected through the 158 organisations with which they collaborate and the needs of the 20,000 people they helped throughout Asturias in 2020.
This initiative is part of the collaborations that EDP carries out with different non-governmental organisations. In addition, the energy company has been collaborating with the region's Food Bank for several years, with monetary and food contributions and with the project to renovate the lighting at its headquarters in Asturias (in Argame). In 2020, the EDP Foundation also donated 15,000 euros for the purchase and distribution of food during the pandemic.
