The EDP Foundation joins the work of the Food Bank of Asturias
15,000 euros to cover the main needs of the organisation during these weeks.
The EDP Foundation has donated 15,000 euros to the Asturias Food Bank. This contribution will allow the entity to maintain its essential activity these weeks, in which it has seen an increase in the number of requests for help, which it has to deal with fewer volunteers due to the restrictions of the state of alarm.
The Food Bank will use the EDP Foundation's donation to purchase food, to distribute it and to cover the expenses it has to assume in its warehouse, located in the Argame industrial estate in Morcín.
In the last three weeks, the Asturias Food Bank has attended to the needs of 5,400 people, to whom it has distributed 111,000 kilos of food through 48 organisations.
The organisation continues to attend to the usual requests, in addition to those of new groups affected by the situation generated by the coronavirus, such as single-parent families or self-employed people who have had to cease their activity.
This work is carried out with practically half of its volunteers. Currently, they only have volunteers in the logistics area, where they have gone from 20 people to 8 during the state of alarm.
This initiative is in addition to those that the energy company has been developing in recent weeks to help its customers and society in the fight against COVID-19. These include the delivery of 460 computers to Asturian students to bridge the digital divide, collaboration in the manufacture of hydrogel and masks, and the creation of the Customer Solidarity Fund, which provides free energy for two months to those customers who are developing solidarity projects, such as the 'Makers Asturias', who are producing protective visors with their 3D printers.
