Tuesday 12, May 2020

39 school children from Ribera de Arriba received the devices today

The Ministry of Education and the EDP Foundation today distributed 39 of the 460 new laptops that the energy company's foundation donated to the Pablo Iglesias Public School in Soto de Ribera to facilitate the monitoring of teaching activities for students affected by the digital divide.

The devices, valued at 200,000 euros, are accompanied by Internet connections for homes that do not have access to the network and will go into the inventory of schools when the loan ends. These resources are in addition to the computers and tablets that the schools have already distributed to students with the help of municipal services and the Spanish Red Cross.

The ceremony was attended by the Director of Professional Education, Javier Cueli; the Mayor of Ribera de Arriba, Tomás Fernández; the head of the EDP Foundation in Asturias, Ángel Moraleda; and the Director of the Pablo Iglesias Public School, Ana María Abad. They all stressed the importance of these teams to meet the needs detected in the Asturian student body.

The equipment donated by the EDP Foundation will reach 79 centres: 49 high schools, 27 public schools and three integrated vocational training centres in 32 councils.
