EDP and Kia join forces to boost one of the largest ultrafast electric charging networks in Spain

Thursday 30, September 2021

With this agreement 150 kW ultrafast charging points will be installed in the official Kia network’s dealers, spread out over the Spanish territory.

Kia Iberia and the energy company EDP have sealed an agreement with which more than 40 ultrafast charging points will be installed in the main official dealers of Kia in Spain. With this partnership, any person that has an electric car will be able to charge it easily and quickly in Kia dealers, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Likewise, the great engagement of both companies to promote sustainability through electric mobility entails for the users an important advantage, making it easier to recharge their vehicles anywhere in Spain. The new recharge facility installed by EDP in the official Kia dealers will enable that customers with an electric model, for example a Kia e-Niro or the new electric EV6, travel the country doing a complete recharge within 30 minutes, achieving electric ranges that could exceed the 500 km, depending on the model.

These new ultrafast charging points have a voltage of 150 kW, which enables a greater dynamism and speed in the energy supply, improving thus significatively the user’s experience in the electric vehicle recharge. Moreover, one of the network points will be of 350 kW, in Kia’s flagship dealer in San Sebastián de los Reyes. This will allow clients to charge their new electric EV6 at 800 volts, achieving a range of 100 km in less than 4.5 minutes, or a recharge from 10% to 80% in less than 18 minutes.

All charging points will be integrated within the platform KiaCharge and EDP’s platform MOVE ON. Moreover, they will be joining the more than 260 000 public charging points that are already available in 29 countries of Europe.

The charging facility is certainly a key factor in the decision to purchase an electric and electrified vehicle. Kia is aware of this and has joined a leading company like EDP to be able to provide, with the great support and capillarity of our dealer’s network, one of the quickest charging networks in Spain, and contribute thus to eliminate one of the main uncertainties when acquiring this type of vehicles”, points Eduardo Dívar, CEO of Kia Iberia.

EDP keeps expanding its network facilities of electric charging points in different locations of the Spanish territory, proving its strong commitment to keep increasing this network. In words of Pedro Vinagre, EDP’s commercial advisor: “In our company we have a strong commitment with electric mobility, key to keep progressing towards a more sustainable world. Furthermore, partnerships like this one, reinforce our purpose of creating innovative solutions for our customers, including comprehensive mobility products and services.”
