More than 40 people have taken part in driving sessions of electric vehicles, organized by EDP in Gijon. It is an initiative of the company to promote the use of vehicles that work with alternative energies.

The sessions have had both a theory and a practice part. The first took place in the eco-station that the company has built in Roces, the first to be launched in the north of Spain.

During the theory part, participants could get to know the main advantages of sustainable mobility. In the case of the electric vehicle, its advantages are environmental, economic and technic. Its use does not involve emissions nor noise pollution. Furthermore, the efficiency of these vehicles is three times superior to the one of combustion engine, and, regarding the charging prize, savings go up to 80 % in comparison with diesel.

After the theory part, participants have tested the different electric vehicles’ brands and models, checking their advantages.

Likewise, they have made a recharge of the vehicles in the eco-station. It is an installation that combines both a fast recharge point for electric vehicles and an area for the refuel of vehicles propelled by natural gas.

The eco-station is open, in a self-service regime, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Its construction answers to EDP’s commitment with sustainable mobility and has entailed an investment of 400 000 euros.

EDP’s commitment goes even further. The company already has more than a hundred vehicles of alternative energies, apart from the twenty charging points in their installations. Moreover, the company works on the expansion and modernization of the charging points for electric vehicles in public spaces.
