FREE NOW will offer a 20% discount to all taxi drivers in the fleet when recharging their electric vehicles at EDP stations throughout Spain.

FREE NOW, Europe's super mobility app, has reached an agreement with EDP, a world leader in renewable energy, to boost the transition to electric vehicles in the taxi sector. As a result of this agreement, taxi drivers operating with FREE NOW will be able to enjoy a 20% discount on the charging of their electric vehicles at all EDP stations in Spain.

The aim of this alliance is to reinforce FREE NOW's commitment to urban mobility, helping the taxi sector in its transition to electric vehicles. Thus, FREE NOW continues with its commitment to promote the electrification of its fleet of vehicles, framed within the company's comprehensive sustainability strategy, Move to Net-Zero, whose main objective is to achieve zero net carbon emissions by 2030.

This alliance comes at an optimal time for FREE NOW, as by 2022 the percentage of electric taxis in its fleet has increased by 100%, especially in the cities of Barcelona and Madrid. Thanks to the efforts in the electrification of the taxi fleet - together with the integration of new zero-emission mobility services - the mobility super-app has already achieved savings of 13,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions in Spain. The alliance with EDP is a further step in ensuring that the electric power for its fleet comes from renewable sources, which multiplies its sustainability.

"The electrification of our taxi fleet is a fundamental part of our strategy to achieve zero emissions by 2030. We believe not only in the need to have a roadmap to achieve this, but in establishing the necessary partnerships and providing the infrastructure to achieve these goals. This agreement with EDP will allow us to help our taxi drivers across Spain to achieve a simpler, faster, more attractive and efficient electric transition," says Isabel García Frontera, Managing Director of FREE NOW in Spain.

EDP's recharging network covers different parts of Spain and continues to grow month by month. It currently has more than 400 charging points in public access spaces and 250 private charging points managed by EDP through the MOVE ON platform. Encouraging the use of electric vehicles, guaranteeing people recharging on their journeys and contributing to improving the environment are also priorities for EDP which, with an investment of 24 billion euros in energy transition, is one of the companies at the forefront of innovation in the sector. Sustainable mobility is key for EDP, which has the ambition to reach 3,000 public charging points on the Iberian Peninsula by the end of 2022.

"At EDP, we are trying to contribute to facilitating the electrification of all fleets, through a strong deployment of public chargers, an open and interoperable digital ecosystem and agreements such as this one with FREE NOW. This alliance will allow us to help transform the way citizens move and create environmentally responsible mobility," says Javier Martínez Ríos, EDP's Sustainable Mobility Director.
