EDP will invest 20 000 euros in the installation of three points

The public parking of Salesas will be the first in Oviedo to have charging points for electric vehicles. There will be three semi-fast installations of 7.5 KW, launched by EDP after reaching an agreement with the parking managers. The energy company will invest 20 000 euros.

The charging points will have their spot in the floor -1. Installation works have already begun, and the new facilities will be operational in the following weeks. They will become part of EDP’s great network, that already sums more than 60 points in public spaces in Asturias.

In order to get informed about the functioning and to carry out recharges, users have two options: to use a sustainable mobility card of the company, that may be requested through the website www.edp.moveon.com; or to use a mobile device, with which one can access the website or use the innovative app “EDP MoveOn” – available for Android and iOS – in order to manage the charges.

Through the web or the app, the location of these points may also be checked, as well as the distance between them, their availability and the type of plugs, among other functions.

To these three points, there is a fourth to be added, that will be used for Guppy vehicles, the first Asturian initiative towards “car sharing”, that will be operative in August.

The Parking of Salesas, with 1570 spots distributed in four floors, is one of the main parking lots in the center of Oviedo and communicates the main roads of the city with the pedestrian city center. It is open 24 hours a day and also has, from this moment on, specific parking spots for 24-hour subscribers with electric vehicle.

In Oviedo, EDP has another charging point, in one of the entries of the Engineering Schools of Mines, Energy and Materials, in the Independencia street.

The installation of these three new points reinforces EDP’s leadership in Asturias in electric mobility, with a great fast and semi fast recharging infrastructure, that covers the needs of electric cars’ users. This last year, EDP has allocated more than a million euros in these projects, committed to electric mobility.

These points are distributed in Gijón, Avilés, Llanera, Mieres, Villaviciosa, Siero, Castrillón, Tapia de Casariego, Grado, Cangas de Onís, Pola de Laviana, Oviedo, Colunga, Benia de Onís, Ribadesella, Peñamellera Alta, Noreña, Amieva, Cudillero, Aeropuerto de Asturias, Posada de Llanes, Candás y Corvera.

The use of these kinds of vehicles does not imply CO2 emissions, nor noise pollution. Moreover, its efficiency is three times superior to the one of motor vehicles, and, regarding the charging prize, the savings are of up to 90% in comparison to traditional cars.

In 2018, the points of the company were used by more than 700 users. Throughout 12 months, users charged a total of 32 000 kWh, which equals traveling 215 000 kilometers with an electric vehicle.
