The projects will have a positive impact in more than 65 000 people

Foundation EDP has revealed the projects that are going to be developed in the 6th edition od EDP Solidaria. 14 candidacies have been selected among a total of 73 submissions and will be benefiting from a total contribution of 600 000 euros. The initiatives have been presented today in a virtual event that included the participation of Melania Álvarez García, Councilor for Social Rights and Welfare, and Manuel Menédez Menéndez, president of the EDP Foundation.

The main goal of all projects is to promote people’s life quality, especially those who are in a vulnerable situation. Moreover, all of them have a measurable impact in at least one of these three fields: promotion of the energy efficiency and equitable access to energy, promotion of rural development and fight against the depopulation of rural areas, and attention to the needs of elderly people. In this edition, the expected number of people benefited from these 14 selected solidary projects will be of 65 138.

Among the selected projects, the ones that stand out are “Eficiencia energética y entorno adecuado para la reparación del daño, como Derechos de los niños, niñas y adolescentes bajo tutela que residen en la Fundación Hogar de San José” (“Energy efficency and adequate environment for the damage reparation, both in Children’s and Adolescents’ Rights under guardianship, residing in the Foundation San José’s Home”), a project that promotes an improvement in the residences of the NNA, safeguarded by the foundation; “Cuidando la Salud Mental en el entorno rural de Asturias de AFESA/FEASE/Asturias” (“Taking care of Mental Health in Asturian’s rural environment”), a service of home comprehensive care for elderly people with mental health issues and for their relatives, that take care of the Asturian rural area; or “RehabilitArte con Energía rehabilitación energética y arte urbano en barrios vulnerables de ECODES” (“RehabilitArt with Energy, energy rehabilitation and urban art in vulnerable ECODES neighborhoods”), that contemplates the energy rehabilitation of a building inhabited by vulnerable families.

Moreover, the sixth edition of the program has brought innovations, result of the evolution that the program has been experimenting since its inception. EDP Foundation has aligned the program with the energy company’s commitment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and the Agenda 2030.

To Vanda Martins, director of the EDP Foundation, “this initiative is now more necessary than ever. We have selected projects from Galicia, Asturias, Extremadura, Castile-La Mancha, Madrid, Aragon and Andalusia. All of them take care of problematics as important as the energy savings for people in a situation of vulnerability, the battle against rural depopulation or the care ant integration of elderly people. Some population’s sectors need these types of support more than ever in a context of health crisis, and that is where EDP Foundation is going to collaborate, not only economically, but also as a strategic ally.”

Since it launched in 2015, EDP Solidaria has supported more than 99 projects in Spain, to which it has allocated a total of more than 3 million euros. Among all the initiatives, more than 200 000 people have been benefited.

In the previous edition of 2019, 18 entities took part, and received a total of 600 000 euros to promote and develop their initiatives. Among them, the Down syndrome Foundation Madrid, Action against Hunger, MedicusMundi or Caritas.
