EDP and Cruz Roja País Vasco have signed an agreement through which they engage with the protection of customers in a situation of vulnerability in Euskadi.

The agreement has been ratified this morning in Vitoria-Gasteiz by Iñaki Irusta, president of Cruz Roja in the Basque Country and Carlos Luengos, director of EDP’s Operations and Customers’ Service.

The goal of the agreement signed today, in the framework of the commitment of both institutions with the principles of solidarity and community service, is to establish the mechanisms of coordination needed to avoid the suspension of electricity and/or gas supply for unpaid bills to those disadvantaged people of the Basque Country, or to ensure its immediate reestablishment if it were suspended.

The protection addressed by the agreement is to be applied to those people that have contracted electricity and/or gas supply of their usual household with EDP, residents in this autonomic community, and that, with a previous technic assessment by professional staff of Cruz Roja País Vasco, may take advantage from an economic benefit aimed for the attention of basic needs of subsistence in situations of social emergency.

Within the framework of the agreement, that will have an initial validity of a year, and will be extendable in annual periods, EDP commits not to suspend the electric and/or gas supply to said customers in a situation of vulnerability while it manages the granting of the mentioned economic benefit from Cruz Roja.

Finally, both institutions have agreed to create a follow-up commission for the protection of people in a situation of vulnerability, to which each will provide two members.
