EDP has just launched an award to honor academic excellence in the energy field, addressed to university students in all the markets in which Group EDP operates, that have developed their master’s or doctoral thesis about this subject. The EDP Labelec Merit Award will reward the investigation in the area, and at the same time, it will help finding new approaches, appliable to the business reality. The application phase began January 25 and will be extended until March 31.

In this first edition, the award promoted together by EDP Labelec and EDP New, two areas of the group focused on developing innovation projects in the energy sector, will grant the winner 15 000 euros, if it is a master’s thesis, or 20 000 euros, if it is a doctoral thesis. Thesis may be presented that, in the context of the energy area, explore subjects like the production and integration of renewable energies and decarbonization, smart networks and distribution, new green energy solutions and innovative technologies or digital solutions.

The selection process will involve the evaluation and selection of the 20 best candidates by a Technic Committee of EDP Labelec and EDP New. Subsequently, the five better thesis will be chosen by an Evaluation Committee of EDP, and finally a jury comprising the renowned experts, external to the company, will choose the winner master’s or doctoral thesis. With this award, EDP strengthens its mission to actively contributing to the energy sector development, with a clear and solid engagement with innovation and energy transition.
