EDP supplies two months of free energy to Asturians that print COVID-19 protection material
The Solidary Clients Fund reaches the households and establishments of the volunteers of “Makers Asturias”
More than 6500 protection masks are already in the hands of health professionals, policemen, Civil Guard, and staff in residences and shelters. All this thanks to the selfless collaboration of hundreds of volunteers around the Principality of Asturias. The initiative “CoronavirusMakers” brings together up to 700 volunteers, registered in the Asturian platform. Currently, more than half of these “makers”, around 400, have already printed and delivered protective screens, as well as doors’ hand guards, in order to reduce the infection areas in health facilities.
Now, EDP will support this collective project with two months of free energy for those volunteers that may keep developing their selfless action. For example, till the date, these contributions have materialized in more than 600 masks in the HUCA, 400 for the Hospital of Cabueñes and 150 for the one in Jove, and various dozens for different health centers, residences and State’s security bodies.
One of the relevant shipments took place on March 25 on the ERA residence of Grado, thanks to the collaboration of the Civil Guard. Moreover, together with the National police, they have gotten to mobilize this equipment from Gijón to Oviedo or to the west during the first days of pandemic incidence on the region.
In order to develop this initiative, respecting the Alarm State’s restrictions, the “makers” are divided in 7 areas, each of them with one or several coordinators, overseeing the collection and distribution of protector masks. Companies like Guppy or Radio Taxi have been the ones in charge of the distribution till today, apart from the National Police, the Civil Guard, the Local Police of the Civil Protection. Now, EDP sums its energy to this solidary chain that enhances the protection of health professionals. The association “Makers Asturias” will be the one in charge of verifying the participation of volunteers with 3D printers through this form.
It should be noted too that the solidary system of 3D printing in a collaborative net has also awoken the interest of other “makers” communities in different Spanish regions.
Solidary Clients Fund
The people and organisms interested in asking for this support for other projects, initiatives or volunteering against COVID-19, framed within the fund “Solidary Clients”, should write an email to FondoClientesSolidarios@edp.com indicating the delivery address and the ID of the energy contract holder, with a brief description of the project and the expectations of its social impact. This measure joins the ones that EDP had already been carrying out, like protection and support of their employees, customers and collaborative companies.
