The energy recharged in the EDP points increases by 90% between January and May

Monday 24, June 2019

The energy company has more than 100 active installations in public spaces and its digital platform adds up more than 1 000 electric vehicle users

Users of EDP’s charging points for electric vehicles have recharged a total of 61 300 kWh between January and May, the equivalent to the average consumption of more than 15 households. This number is 90% higher than the registered throughout 2018, when 32 000 kWh were recharged, and responds to the progressive installation of new charging points throughout the previous year.

With the energy charged on the first five months, users could travel more than 400 000 kilometers with electric vehicles. Being zero-emission-vehicles, this has avoided the emission of more than 50 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, with regard to the motor vehicles.

EDP has more than 100 functioning points, that are distributed between Asturias, Cantabria, the Basque Country, Madrid and the Valencian Community. The company continues working to expand this network with new installations, both in urban areas and in the proximity of highways.

Gijón stands out within this large network, as it counts with 20 installations, which turns it into the reference city in the north of Spain in terms of electric mobility.

Digitalization is one of the keys to electric mobility. The company has a web platform and a mobile app, so that any user can operate the points and carry out recharges: these are www.edpmoveon.com and the app “EDP MoveOn” – available for Android and iOS –, that has already more than 1 000 users.

Through the website or the phone app, users can also check the location of these points, the distance between them, their availability and type of plug, among other functions.

This way, the digital platform EDP MoveOn already manages the company’s assets and assists the more than 1 000 mobility customers, while also having integrated successfully with other platforms like HUBJET (global referent in interoperability) or with systems as notable as AUDI’s.

EDP also progresses and works in order to make more innovative solutions available to individuals and companies, including the installation of charging points and integral systems of management of these recharges.

The electric vehicle is the only one with 0% emissions and does not generate noise pollution. Moreover, its efficiency is three times higher than the one of motor vehicles, and, regarding the charging prize, savings are of up to 90% in comparison with that of traditional cars.

Cirve Project

The company has completed the installation of charging points that it had assigned within the European project Cirve (Corredores Ibéricos de Infraestructura de Recarga Rápida de Vehículos Eléctricos). This is the first partner of the project to be completing the installation.

This project, that counts with European public funds from the program CEF Transport, contemplates the launching of 40 points in Spain, out of which 25 are new, and 15 are adapted. EDP has installed a total of five: three in the Basque Country, one in Asturias and another one in Madrid.
