EDP Foundation donates four electric vehicles to the Princess of Asturias Foundation

Wednesday 07, October 2020

They will cover 5,000 kilometres, which will avoid the emission of almost 600 kilograms of CO2 into the atmosphere.

The Princess of Asturias Foundation will have four electric vehicles at its disposal for its journeys during the week of the Awards. These are 100% electric cars, which were handed over by the head of the EDP Foundation in Asturias, Ángel Moraleda, and the head of Mobility at EDP Spain, Javier Izquierdo, to the director of the Princess of Asturias Foundation, Teresa Sanjurjo. The presentation took place at the Reconquista Hotel in Oviedo, where this year's awards ceremony will be held.

The vehicles will cover more than 5,000 kilometres during these days, which means that their journeys will avoid the emission of 590 kilograms of CO2 into the atmosphere, a positive impact on air quality similar to that of 50 new trees.

The four vehicles, of the Hyundai Kona model, come from Resnova Group dealerships in the region and will recharge their batteries at the points that EDP has installed in Asturias, both those that the energy company has at its facilities and those that it has installed in public spaces.

EDP now has more than 100 charging points for electric cars in public spaces in the region, an extensive infrastructure that meets and covers the needs of users of these vehicles. In Spain it already has more than 200 installations.

To find out how they work and manage recharging, users have at their disposal the innovative 'EDP MoveOn' platform, available via the website, www.edpmoveon.com, and the mobile app for Android and iOS. In addition to recharging, users can find out the location of the company's recharging points, the distance to them, their availability and type of connectors, among other features.

The electric vehicle is the only one with 0% emissions and its use does not involve noise pollution. Its efficiency is three times higher than that of combustion vehicles and, in terms of the cost of recharging, the savings are up to 90% compared to traditional cars.

The loan of these vehicles reinforces the close relationship between the two organisations, while at the same time contributing to the Princess of Asturias Foundation's commitment - acquired in 2011 - to offset and reduce the carbon footprint produced during the awards week. This action is in addition to the collaboration with the Ecology and Development Foundation (ECODES), which has awarded the ZeroCO2 label to the awards for the ninth consecutive year.
