Día del Clima

EDP customers with self-consumption solutions avoid the emission of 4 000 tons of CO2 per year

On the occasion of the Climate Day, EDP Solar has carried out a study about the reduction of its clients’ annual emissions.

EDP, coinciding with the Climate Day, has carried out a study among its clients with solar energy to know the energy impact that their photovoltaic facilities imply.

Since last year’s Climate Day, EDP’s clients have achieved to avoid an emission of 3 966 tons of CO2. Domestic clients of the energy company have attained to produce, thanks to solar energy, a total of 5.9 GWh, avoiding 1 796 tons of emissions. For its part, entrepreneurial customers have produced 7 GWh, avoiding 2 170 tons of emissions.

This has been thanks to its commitment with self-consumption, which contributes to energy saving and respects the environment, achieving an impact in the air quality similar to the one that would have 247 933 new trees, 112 308 in the case of private individuals and 135 625 in the case of companies.

The total savings that the company’s photovoltaic facilities imply, equals the average consumption of 5 816 households, 2 635 from domestic clients and 3 1818 from companies.

Among the companies that are committed to savings, efficiency and environmental commitment with EDP are Friologic, with the largest photovoltaic installation for self-consumption in Mercamadrid, Masymas, Cárnicas Gallego and La Cartonera Lucentina, among others.

To Gabriel Nebreda, director of EDP Solar, “in Spain we have the conditions to commit with solar energy and we must contribute to a sustainable development. Self-consumption implies a challenge, but also an opportunity in transition towards a more competitive and clean energy.”

EDP has launched its strategic plan to become the lead in energy transition in the country. Moreover, it has committed to be a carbon neutral company by 2030. 80% of the expected investment for the following years will be destined to renewable energies, with the goal of improving its portfolio of all green technologies (wind, solar, hydrogen and storage).

For its part, electric mobility is one of the other cornerstones for the company, that expects to reinforce its strategy of making available more innovative and adapted solutions to their clients. Electric mobility will also enable to reduce emissions released into the atmosphere, as the electric vehicle is 2.5 times more efficient than a similar vehicle with diesel fuel. At the same time, the company will increase the number of recharging points in public spaces, through agreements with different companies and entities that see sustainable mobility as key for the electrification of transport.
