Instalaciones fotovoltaicas para autoconsumo en Nuevo Gijón

masymas starts up two new self-consumption photovoltaic installations in Asturias

Friday 27, August 2021

The installations carried out by EDP, which are located in Nuevo Gijón and Riaño, will enable annual savings of more than 28% of electricity consumption.

Supermercados masymas (Hijos de Luis Rodríguez) has just installed two new photovoltaic installations for self-consumption in Asturias -in Nuevo Gijón and in Riaño-, in addition to the 3 that the company already has: its Integral Logistics Platform in Llanera, a supermarket in Llanes and another in León. The plants, which have been built by EDP, will reduce annual energy consumption by more than 28%.

The new installation in Gijón has a power of 118 kWp and will be capable of capturing solar energy of 124 MWh/year, which means a reduction in grid consumption of 28.24%. In the case of the Riaño supermarket, the installation has a power of 126 kWp and will produce solar energy of 137 MWh/year, which means a reduction in electricity consumption of 31.89%.

Self-consumption through these plants will avoid the annual emission of 121 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere, which translates into a positive impact similar to that which would be generated by more than 700 new trees. The rest of the energy consumed by the two supermarkets will be supplied by EDP, as part of the agreement between the two companies.

These two new installations reinforce the supermarket chain's commitment to environmental protection, one of its strategic priorities.

Pelayo Pulgar, Director of Expansion and Development at Masymas, indicates that "with the five photovoltaic installations we already have in operation, we are going to avoid the annual emission of more than 500 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere, the equivalent of what would be generated by more than 3,000 new trees and travelling more than 2,500,000 kilometres with a combustion vehicle. The two new plants will cover more than 28% of the annual electricity consumption".

For EDP Spain, this project with masymas is a success story and "reflects the close relationship with our business customers, as well as our ability to continue innovating and developing comprehensive projects that contribute to boosting energy savings, sustainability and the competitiveness of our customers, who benefit from all the advantages offered by self-consumption from day one."

Supermercados masymas will control the installation through access to a management system, which will allow it to monitor at all times, and in real time, both the energy generated by the photovoltaic plant and its consumption.

Self-consumption is one of the energy solutions with the greatest savings potential, both for households and for companies and industries. It also has a positive impact and boosts the economy and employment.
